American Woodcock

Strange Looking Bird

Viewed 20 Times

The Woodcock is typically seen at dusk during the spring when it performs its unusual mating flight, when it zooms up into the air and then spirals downward toward the earth.  We were lucky to see this one in the middle of the day moving through the grasses.

Jimmy Durante would be proud of that beak!

I’ve never seen one up close! Interesting downward angle of that long beak.
