At first glance these two birds appear similar, but they are not. Above is a Pine Siskin (male) which has a touch of yellow on its wings. Note the sharp beak on the Siskin and streaky body. Below is a Goldfinch with a blunter beak and clean body. Both species have been frequenting our Thistle feeder so far this fall.

I had a dozen of those Pine Siskins coming to the feeders for a few days and then they vanished just as suddenly as they appeared. I thought they might stick around a little longer. Are you still seeing them?
