It is unusual for me to see a Pileated Woodpecker on the ground, yet this time both a male and female happily searched for grubs in the rotting logs on the forest floor. In fact they stayed on the ground, quite close to the path, for over 10 minutes. This is the male, as it has a red mustache.

Beautiful shot! These birds have so much charisma, and it is a great experience to see them so close.
