This Brant is a member of the Branta family, which also includes Canada and Cackling Geese. These birds spend their summer as far north as you can get and then migrate south along the east and west coasts. It is rarely seen in the central U.S. but this one has been around a week or so, so many birders have made the trek to Chicago to see it.
