Female Downy WoodPecker and Female Northern Cardinal fight over some sunflower seeds in the snow. It was around -4 degrees Fahrenheit and the feeders were empty so I threw some sunflower seed in the snow to gets phots of birds on this perch with a white background. Since it was so cold and there wasn’t a lot of food around there was some fierce completion for the seeds. This Downy and Cardinal opened their feathers and wings to try and scare the other off.

Welcome to GreatBirdPics and thanks for sharing this shot with us. It was a difficult shot to get with the very white snow background – great job of getting the details of the birds!
Amazing!
Tremendous picture! Two of my favorite birds!
