Early on a chilly December morning this Red-tailed Hawk swooped in and landed on a tree not far in front of me. A minute later he suddenly flew to the ground and pounced on prey, apparently (I’m told), a short-tailed shrew, then returned to a branch and tore it apart and devoured it. Afterwards he sat contentedly back on the branch. An absolutely beautiful hawk!!
