If you remember way back in early July, I posted pics of a one day old Mallard duckling that suddenly appeared in our backyard pond. We found the nest in our neighbor’s front yard, up in a tree. The local wildlife center wouldn’t take it because of the virus. So we were on our own. Our pond became her home and miraculously no raccoons or hawks found her. This picture was taken earlier today…August 22. This is what a 52 day old Mallard looks like. She (I’m guessing) is almost full size and feathered out…although she can’t yet fly. We haven’t decided what the best course of action is now..whether to take her to a forest preserve lake or see if she will fly away on her own.
