Great Antshrike

Patience and planning pay off

Viewed 25 Times

This bird is often difficult to photograph as it skulks in the undergrowth. At Asa Wright Nature Center on the island of Trinidad, there is an overnight security light at the far edge of the parking lot. This bird comes every morning for about 5 minutes to try to catch moths that gather overnight. It usually stays no more than 5 minutes and often gives you only fleeting view as it attempts to find moths on the ground. It took me 2 mornings to get this shot.
