Keas are known as the Alpine Parrot. They are endemic to mountainous regions of the South Island of New Zealand. They get their name from their raucous call “keeeaa”. They make their nests in rocky crevices. They weigh about 1 kg. They are very mischievous. When trekking in NZ, you don’t dare leave backpacks, boots, or any small items unattended. They may be thoroughly searched or stolen. There are several videos out there regarding damage they have done to parked cars.

Interesting info. I briefly saw one there but this is a great picture with the mountains in the background.
Great bird. The “scaley” feather detail is terrific.
