Domestic-raised bird. This unusual looking bird is half blue and half green….split down the middle. Called a half -sider. Scientifically they are called gynandromorphs…being composed of both sexes. These birds are infertile and rarely live very long. Parents were a green bird (split blue, meaning bird was carrying one gene for the color blue, and one gene for the color green. Green is dominant, so the bird will be green in color. The other parent was blue…meaning it’s carrying two blue genes, so the bird is blue in color. With this breeding arrangement, offspring will be 50% all green and 50% all blue. However, on rare occasions something goes wrong and this can occur.
