Common Pauraque

A master of camouflage

Viewed 30 Times

This is a Common Paraque. The picture was taken by my wife, Deb, with a Panasonic DC-G9, 100-400 mm Leica lens. This bird (or another of the same species) daily roosts in approximately the same place off the main trail at Estero Grande Reserve near Mission TX. It sits about 5′ off the main trail which is used by scores and sometimes 100’s of people daily. Everyone knows where it is at so most people stop to look or photograph it. This bird truly has confidence in its camouflage.

It looks more like a snake than a bird. Great capture and description.
