We were watching birds at Holland State Park one October day in 2017. Suddenly all of the gulls on the south pier took flight. My husband said watch that dark bird! It is a Jaeger! We watched it fly back and forth along the pier up to Big Red and back to the west end of the pier and across to the north pier for six minutes. We were not sure what species of Jaeger it was. I downloaded 450 photos at home. Picked out the best 10 photos. Checked all the bird books. This was the first record of this species in Ottawa County, Michigan. It was also our first Michigan record.

Congrats on (another) Ottawa Co. record! Sounds like it took some research to narrow this one down.
