During 2024 we had more than 100 inches of rain at our home in Naples, FL! But between October 2024 and April 2025, less than 3 inches. A friend told me that the waters at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary are drying up due to the dry weather and the wading birds are concentrated in the ponds along the boardwalk. I headed to Corkscrew specifically to see the Roseate Spoonbills, which I found there in large numbers, feeding, sleeping and preening.
I enjoyed watching this bird preening and wanted to share several photos, so I put this collage together, rather than uploading many individual photos.
Paul I was at Corkscrew swamp in 2014 and didnt see these spoonbills there. I just love these roseate ones they are stunning
I’ve occasionally been checking eBird to learn where I could find them in Collier or Lee Counties. Then a friend who lives near Corkscrew told me they were there feeding in the drying pools. It was wonderful to see so many in breeding plumage!
