Pheasant-tailed Jacana

Danger from above

Viewed 4 Times

There are some behaviors that are universal among birds over the world (at least that portion of the world I have seen). This is one of those behaviors. Danger typically comes to water birds from above. Hawks, owls, eagles often will snatch birds from the surface of the water. As a consequence, many of these waterfowl or wading birds spend a lot of time looking up. This is a Pheasant-tailed Jacana, from Vietnam. Unfortunately for me, they only have the “pheasant tail” during breeding season, but I still think they are an attractive bird.
