Cattle Egret

A tough world if you are a lizard

Viewed 35 Times

It is a tough world out there. This is a Cattle Egret, certainly a common bird in many areas of the world. Different than most egrets or herons, in that the Cattle Egret prefers to feed, not along water, but rather in fields, pastures or even wooded areas. We watched this one in Colombia stalk and capture several lizards over a 45 minute time period. Unfortunately this particular encounter only lasted about 30 seconds; not long enough for me to place an extender on my lens, so the image has been cropped heavily.
