A tricolored heron dashes back and forth in the shallow waters along the beach, flapping its wings and stirring up sediment. This behavior is meant to spook its prey, frightening them out of hiding beneath rocks and sand and into the waiting beak of the hungry heron. Such “spooky” behavior is an appropriate activity for Halloween.
