This bird, a California Towhee, is very common in my area. Spends most of its time on the ground foraging under bushes, etc. Many of my images of this bird show just that. However, particularly during the spring, the males will seek out higher areas to sing and attract mates and stake out territory. This is what this bird was doing. Fortunately for me, he chose a photogenic (IMO) perch. Makes a big difference in the iimage.
