Have you been to seen Prairie-chickens at a lek? It’s a fabulous experience! The birds were once wide-spread but are now very limited and hard to find. The viewing experience includes entering a blind before sunrise and waiting for the birds – bundle up! Males arrive first and display back and forth for each other – they are heard before there is enough light to see them! The hens are fewer and stay back watching the males display. Sometimes the hens leave to seek out better mates at alternate leks. If a hen shows any interest, the males chase her aggressively!
