While there are often similarities, Old and New World birds are often quite different. For example, there are no hummingbirds in the Old World, but there are not sunbirds in the new world. This type of bird, Yellow-tailed Oriole from Costa Rica, looks similar to Old World Orioles, but is actually a completely different family. In the Old World Orioles are members of their own family-Oriolidae. In the New World, our Orioles, while they look similar to those, are a completely separate bird family; actually members of the blackbird family. The blackbird family includes Red-winged Blackbirds, etc.
This Yellow-tailed Oriole was shot in Costa Rica last fall. Not rare, but certainly not commn there either.
Shot with a Canon R6, 600 mm + 1.4x (840 mm) at SS 1/2000 (handheld from a boat), ISO 2000, f/5.6 with EC of -1.0. Processed in PS with approximately 75% FF. I debated but decided to leave the spider web in the shot.
