We took a Field Guides tour to Louisiana. We climbed aboard a combine with a few other participants. As the combine traversed the rice field, many species of birds took off. Some we saw before they flew and some we did not. This Virginia Rail we did not. When I saw it fly, I raised the camera hoping to get some photos. This is one I got. It is not a look we had seen before of a Virginia Rail in flight. They breed in Ottawa County, but usually are seen running through the marshes.
