This ruddy turnstone flips a sand flea it just caught into its mouth. This photo is actually backlit, the sun is about 30 degrees to the bird’s left, so I had to adjust my exposure very carefully. While the backlighting means I sacrifice some of the more vibrant color on my subject, it gives me an amazing background with deep blues and lots of bokeh from the sun reflecting off of the sand, water, and clouds.
