Spotted this one on my usual weekend walk (I try to rotate a bunch of different walks and wildlife reserves every weekend). I decided on a whim to go off the beaten path and ended up in the storage lot of the parks department where they kept all their machinery and dirt/gravel/etc. I didn’t even see the hawk at first until my presence scared him off the bench he was perched on up into a tree. I couldn’t get a good view on him at first and wasn’t sure if it was a red-tailed or red-shouldered until his distinctive call gave him away. I tried to be very careful and respectful as I crept closer for my shots. This was an exciting find, as red-shouldered hawks are possible but rather uncommon in my area, to the extent that local field guides won’t even bother listing them.

Great find of the Red-shouldered Hawk. Like your area, they are infrequent visitors here.
