Common Loon, stretches and flaps its wings after preening. Quabbin Reservoir is the largest body of water inside Massachusetts. It has played an important role in restoring the Loon population in the state.

Great shot of the loon rearing up. I wonder why they do that?
After preening, Ducks, Loons and Grebes usually stretch and flap. Whenever I am shooting one of these species, I always look for an opportunity to capture this kind of action. Especially right after they are done working over their feathers with their beaks.
