Henslow's Sparrow

Merlin app to the rescue.

Viewed 56 Times

I heard a weak peep in a grassy field and had no idea what it was until I turned on my Merlin app. Once I realized a Henslow’s Sparrow was 10 feet from me, I waited until it came out in the open to sing and give me a nice photo opportunity. I’ve rarely seen these birds and learned that only in breeding season will they pop out to sing. Having it sit on a nice perch made me a very happy camper.

Fabulous find and photo. I heard one there last week, but didn’t get so lucky to even get a good look at it.
