I waited some time before uploading my photos of a Harlan’s Hawk (subspecies of Red-tailed Hawk), since I posted it on eBird when we first saw it in New Mexico and wait d to see whether the monitor would object. No objection. Harlan’s Hawks are usually found in northern Alaska and nw Canada. Some might to Louisiana, but they are extremely rare in NM. Mature Harlan’s have white tails.

I’m unfamiliar with Harlan’s Hawks. Are they a species unto themselves or just a type of Red-tailed?
