A female Mexican Duck on the Rio Grande near the convergence of the Texas, New Mexico, & Mexico borders. (Note orange bill; males have yellow bills.) Until a few years ago Mexican Duck was considered a subspecies of Mallard. Now they are classified as a separate species, although they sometimes hybridise with Mallards.

Nice pic of the Mexican Duck but how can you tell the difference between a Mottled Duck?
Mainly by range—no mottled ducks except on Gulf of Mexico coast
