We found this bird in the Kealia Pond NWR on the island of Maui. This is a totally new bird for me. I have read that it got its name from hunters as it has a distinctive alarm call which alerts other birds of potential danger. It also has a large range from Alaska to across the Hawaiian islands thus the “wandering” part of the name. I had planned to run this photo through Merlin but another birder saved me the effort by identifying the species.
