It’s always a nice feeling when you actually capture a rare bird for your area. This Oregon sub-species Dark-eyed Junco has been hanging around some feeders at a local forest preserve. The first few days I saw this bird, it was so cloudy and dreary, plus he kept in the shadows that I didn’t care for my photos. Today, with the sun shining, I decided to try again and see if I could get better photos of him. Turns out, he was enjoying the sunshine too.

We’ve been over there twice and have yet to see this interesting bird. We must have missed you today by 45 minutes. Good for you for going back and getting the shot you wanted. It is particularly tough to get such a good exposure when the bird is standing on snow!
Out where I live (on the West Coast), these are common, but still nice iconic shot-Junco in the snow.
Nice capture Bonnie.
We have many of these, they are great looking birds!
Love this photo
Terrific shit!
