When visiting the neotropics there are certain birds that are iconic. The Toucan family certainly qualifies for that Icon status. This is one of the smaller toucans, a Crimson-rumped Toucanet. This image was taken at the San Tadeo near Mindo, Ecuador. Beyond the beak, look at the subtle colors and color changes of this bird. Virtually a rainbow of colors.

Beautiful colors on this bird.
Thank you. As with most birds, the better the light, the better the colors. I sometimes find that in the areas I like to shoot in (which are usually dark), sometimes it is hard to really capture those colors. I rarely use fill flash, but in many of these situations that might bring out more color.
It looks like it was pretty dark in the area where you got the picture of the Toucanet. Great job of capturing the shot with all the colors. Such an amazing bird. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Yes, it was dark. Unfortunately, like I posted above, much (no, most) of the time where I like to shoot it is dark.
