My work is near Fullersburg Woods and I often pull into the parking lot to enjoy a cup of coffee and listen for bird calls. As luck would have it I heard Summer Tanagers singing as well as Indigo Buntings. There were multiple Buntings singing and chasing each other around the woods. The Buntings landed very close to my car and I pulled out my camera and took a few shots of the males and females. I like this shot because of the perch, clean background and full throated singing.

Great photo!
Thanks. I’m glad you like it.
It’s amazing how clean the background is in the Bunting picture. The signing can almost be heard. Looks like you selected a good place to park!
I shot in extremely dark and overcast conditions. My shutter speed was just fast enough to freeze the singing beak. Since no light penetrated the background it looks very uniform. I was more excited about the cool perch the bird landed on. And, this is handheld from my car window. Thank goodness for image stabilization.
Love it. I’ve had challenges capturing these little guys.
Great shot. Perch, BG, action, beautiful bird in gorgeous plumage. Sometimes you just get lucky, although it sounds like you were prepared. Sometimes what seems like luck is just good preparation.
Wow, another great picture!
