Mission: Arrive early, find Common Loon, observe behavior, set up for bird, pray for good light, pray for the bird to come close, be prepared to adjust settings.
As with most birding adventures almost nothing worked as planned. Another photographer joined me and we waited over 3 hours for the Loon to pop up close by. For the first two hours the bird simply slept. When it did come close the light was extremely harsh but we were happy to get a few shots. The plus side of all the waiting was the opportunity to photograph a close by Red-breasted Merganser and a Male Mallard in good light as well as catch up with a good friend and photographer.
