Blue Duck

Blue Duck ‘Whio’

Viewed 34 Times

Seen near the rapids by a waterfall where it had been feeding.
Blue duck is now a very restricted species rarely found far from fast-flowing mountain streams. It is threatened by predation from introduced mammals especially stoats. In an adult its bill has fleshy skin flaps hanging from the sides of the tip.

Thanks for the intersecting information about the Blue Duck. I was unfamiliar with this species. The picture really captured my attention, too.
