Seen near the rapids by a waterfall where it had been feeding.
Blue duck is now a very restricted species rarely found far from fast-flowing mountain streams. It is threatened by predation from introduced mammals especially stoats. In an adult its bill has fleshy skin flaps hanging from the sides of the tip.
