The numbers of Redpolls in my yard have been growing every day, and I was really hoping to see a Hoary hiding in the flock of Commons. Today they were at least 20 at the feeders and several were in the trees roosting and preening. This one caught my eye due to it’s paler coloring and less heavy streaking, particularly under the tail, which you can’t really see in this photo and I thought it might be what I was looking for. After posting it on the ABA “What’s That Bird” it was pointed out that the beak didn’t seem tiny enough for a Hoary. Oh well, guess I’ll just keep on looking!

Glad the males started showing up for you. Nice shot.
Thanks Emil. Yes there is no shortage of males now . . . lol
I hope you get the Hoary. In the meantime great shot of the Common.
Thanks Mike! Seems the Hoary is pretty darn rare, and from what I hear the species is soon to be “lumped” in with Commons.
About 1 in 100 is a Hoary.
There’s at least 100 in the yard today! Fingers crossed.
