This is a Red-legged Cormorant that was photographed in Pucusana, Peru. Very difficult shooting circumstances including shooting from a small boat rocking in the surf. A huge island rock was covered with diving birds-literally 10’s of thousands of them. Difficult to get an individual bird isolated. This was taken hand held at 324 mm, 1/2500th of second, f/7.1, ISO 1000. That was about 1 stop underexposed, so that was brought up in post.
Check out the eye-truly unique. Also check out the guano. 10,000 birds sitting on a rock, even a big one, for 100’s of years produce a lot of poop.

Great picture of the Red-legged Cormorant! I like the composition showing the habitat and the bird. Interesting back-story on getting the pic, too. Not sue what you mean by “eye-truly unique.”
Thank you; it was a great day. Check out the dotted feathers around the eye. I do not know of any other bird that has this “design” around eye.
This photo is gorgeous! So many great textures here
