Winter wrens are probably my favorite wren in our region, but they can be hard to photograph. This image was no different. I had been observing this winter wren for a few weeks, but had never got a good photo opportunity. This day, he was much closer, and after about 30 minutes of hiding out of sight, he finally popped into the open, allowing me get a burst of images, including this one.

I love the lighting on the Winter Wren. Good patience to wait – it was worth it! A great composition, leaving much of the trunk in the shot to add texture.
Gorgeous shot!
