Our winter nuthatch, Red-breasted, in the Midwest. These nuthatches are smaller than the more common White-breasted Nuthatch. I usually hear their nasal call before seeing them. This little guy, females are grayer on top and paler on the belly, stopped for a couple seconds, which was enough time to snap off a couple photos. This year we seem to have an abundance of these little nuthatches…not that I’m complaining.

We’ve had a Red-breasted Nuthatch at our backyard feeders on and off recently. I’ve been meaning to try and grab of picture of it. You pic is excellent!
