Golden-crowned as well as the Ruby-crowned Kinglet are very challenging to photograph. The are small, quick and moving about nearly incessantly. Sometimes, with a little luck, you capture an image. Until this season, I had not had a photo opportunity with this species in almost 3 years.

3 years! Are they that uncommon there or you just haven’t been able to get any good pics? This one is terrific!
They’re not that uncommon. Just not easy to find (usually high up in conifers). I need to give my wife credit for my recent images. She heard them in the woods during one of our walks. These birds’ high pitched call (at a distance) is simply beyond my hearing.
