Took a short getaway trip to Wisconsin this week, and on one of our hikes spotted this Bald Eagle surveying his/her territory by a small pool in the river.
Fun Fact: Something I just learned about the Bald Eagle according to Cornell’s AllAboutBirds – Benjamin Franklin was apparently opposed to the Bald Eagle becoming the National Emblem of the United States because of its less than honorable lifestyle of being opportunistic and habitually thieving prey from other birds. His choice would have been the Wild Turkey. While I agree with Franklin’s sentiments, I also think on the other hand our nation’s history in reality seems more in line with these traits of the Bald Eagle (unfortunately) and it has a natural look of fierceness in images that seems to coincide with how we’d like to be seen by other nations. Not sure the Wild Turkey could have pulled this off. . . lol.
(Interestingly, the Bald Eagle was also a spiritual symbol to the native people of North America).
