Winter Waterfowl Practice

We went to Centennial Trail recently to see what waterfowl may have flown in.  It’s always iffy in the winter to find open water (where the waterfowl congregate).  Centennial Trail parallels the Des Plaines River; rivers can have open water even in frigid temps because of the flowing water.  When we arrived we did find a number of different birds there but we often have to think back to a year ago to recall what species they are.  Sometimes it’s particularly tough to identify them because they tuck their heads down and motor around the river like a big feathery blob.  Below are some pics of birds we saw – how many of them can you identify?  Answers tomorrow:
