Sometimes when I get home and load my images into my computer I see some of the birds tinted in a different color*. Here’s an example of a Canadian Warbler tinted in green.
On sunny days in particular, the green foliage surrounding a bird will throw a green cast on the bird; as the light reflects off the leaves they make the bird appear greener than it really is. This greenish tinge is “natural” so should I leave it alone or modify it during post-processing?
Below is the same image with the same Lightroom settings except for one; I moved the Tint from +19 to +65. Moving the Tint slider to the right reduces the greens and increases the reds.
Does this change make the bird look more “natural”? Yes. Or should I have left the image in its original “natural” state showing the green tinge from the foliage? What would you do in this instance? Reply to the email or leave a comment in the blog post.
* The tint is usually green but sometimes when the sky is browner due to western wildfires they can appear more yellow/tan.
