When I first looked at the photo below I didn’t recognize it as a hummingbird. Then I read Bajadreamer’s description (click the pic) and he tells a tale of climbing at high elevation to get a glimpse of this Buffy Helmetcrest Hummingbird. Did I select it because it was rare? Yes. Did I select it because it was hard to get to? Yes. Did I select it because it’s a GreatBirdPic? Yes. I believe all of these factors have to be recognized to get a true sense of the artistic value of a bird photograph.
