A week ago Bajadreamer sent the picture below and asked, “This is a European Turtle Dove, shot in Spain from a hide at a water feature. It was originally shot in landscape and cropped to portrait. Would you crop more from the bottom? From the top”?
All the responses I received suggested leaving it alone – no crop necessary (or maybe a little less on the bottom). For me, I would go back to the landscape format and then crop it so that the bottom edge is a little below the reflections. I think that would bring out the bird’s red eye and its reflection. As the image currently stands, there is too much space at the bottom which shows a dark blob, which takes away from the bird and flower.
Let us know what you decide to do, Bajadreamer. You could even post the final edit of the image for us to compare.
