Birds of Ecuador

John Weisgerber was in Ecuador not long ago and shared some shots from his travels.  We are going there in January so these just upped my excitement for the trip!

How about this one to start out – a Black-chinned Mountain Tanager.  Beautiful colors!

Perhaps not quite a colorful, but the Andean Guan has lots of fine details that are amazing to see.  Wonderfully sharp pic considering the size of the bird.

John’s captured my “must see” bird when I go to Ecuador: the Andean Cock-of-the Rock.  Such an interesting and colorful head!  The shot reminds me of a Netflix documentary I recently viewed titled, “Dancing Birds”.  It had an extended section devoted to the Cock-of-the-rock’s mating ritual.

Have you ever seen a hummer like this?  A Wire-crested Thorntail’s long crest makes this a unique hummer for me.  Looks like difficult lighting conditions but John did an excellent job of compensating for the backlit subject.

Thanks John for these GreatBirdPics!  Hope to see more before I go down there so I can add to my “must see” list.
