A Pair of Australian Shovelers
When I first glanced at this picture I thought it was a pair of Northern Shovelers – but I was wrong. Rebecca Bowater shared a pair of Australian Shovelers taken in Nelson, New Zealand. Note how sharp both birds are – using an aperture of F8 Rebecca was able to widen the depth-of-field to capture both in focus. Can you see the difference between the male Australian and the Northern Shoveler? The one pictured here has a vertical white line behind the bill and the head is a dull green.
