GreatBirdPics is pleased to announce its spring bird photography contest. After a wet 10 days in Ecuador I came away with several pictures (see below) of birds in the rain and given that “April Showers Bring May Migrants” (I think that’s the phrase) our new contest is April Showers – Birds In The Rain. Pretty self-explanatory; post pictures of birds in the rain. The winner will win $100. Here are the guidelines:
- Every entry must have the phrase “Birds In the Rain” in the title so I know it’s in the contest.
- All entries must be submitted by 8 PM Central time on Friday, April 4, 2025 (just in time for April showers). The winner will be announced before the end of April.
- Add a couple of sentences in the Description about how you got the shot.
- Enter as many GreatBirdPics as you like, however photographs previously posted on GreatBirdPics.com are not eligible.
- The contest will be judged by Xwinger and I. Comments posted on entries do influence the judges!
- Participants are limited to members of GreatBirdPics.com.
Here are some examples from my Ecuador trip:
On the very last day of our Ecuador trip we visited the Tambo Condor Bird Lodge and watched a Giant Hummingbird flit about in the rain.
Most of the time while we were at Sarayacu Tanager Lookout it rained, but that didn’t prevent the birds from coming in, like this Tropical Kingbird.
We were dry under the restaurant’s overhang but this Red-billed Parrot had to gut it out through some pretty heavy rain.
I like it when the water beads up, like on the back of this Blue-winted Mountain Tanager.
This Crimson-rumped Toucanet didn’t seem to mind the rain at all. It came in for some tasty banana and then took off.
Don’t forget – entries in by 8 PM CDT April 4, 2025! Good luck!
